Class Descriptions

At Black Dove, we believe the body should be capable of producing ten basic functional movements without pain or limitation. These are; sit, stand, walk, run, jump, rotate, fold, sustain, flow and release. (Black Dove, 2011™) Each of the classes at Black Dove are informed by this underlying philosophy. We believe that pursuit of these aims in a safe, educational, studio environment is the most effective way to promote lasting and functional physical health.

Strength

Resistance – This weights based class will build upon a Mat Class practice by adding strength and resistance work to the class format. Great for toning, weight loss and rehabilitation.

Endurance – This class is designed to improve cardio output, build endurance and increase breath capacity. This class is great for weight loss, improving athleticism and challenging your physical capability.

Cardio Blitz – This class is CARDIO. 30 minutes of power output and challenging your physical capability. Get ready to break a sweat!

Abdominal Blitz – This 30 minute power class will challenge your core strength and physical capability.

Pilates

Group Fit 3 210x210 Class DescriptionsPilates is a great way to challenge yourself physically and mentally as well as increase flexibility, improve posture, decrease back pain and develop core strength and tone. Learn to cultivate your physical capacity and improve your overall well-being through core development, breathing, stretching and strengthening exercises.

PILATES MATWORK: An introduction to Pilates Mat. In this class you will learn how to engage and isolate abdominal connection, develop body awareness and build the foundation for a successful Pilates practice.

PILATES APPARATUS: Using various pilates equipment, this class builds upon the fundamentals learned in Pilates Matwork. We will focus on sculpting core muscles, improving coordination and flexibility, and developing lasting strength from the inside out.

PILATES REFORMER: This resistance based workout takes your pilates matwork to the next level. It has been proven successful for general wellbeing and rehabilitation for acute or chronic pain. Yoga

You do not need to go on holidays to connect with your spirit. Yoga is great ways to tap into the peace that exists NOW, in this moment. Quieting the mind and becoming conscious of the body help to draw you away from the mind/ego and bring you back into an awareness of your true essence.

GENTLE YOGA: This class serves as an introduction to meditation, breathing and yoga techniques. No previous experience is required.

VINYASA YOGA: This class helps to strengthen the body and the mind through synchronised breathing and flowing movements. No previous experience required.

POWER YOGA: This class combines strength and flexibility exercises to open and reinforce the muscles of the core. Builds a solid foundation for other Yoga, Dance and Pilates classes… prepare to be challenged!

Dance

DANCE CONDITIONING:: Improving coordination, flexibility and sequencing will be the main focus of this class. No previous dance experience is required.
